Finances

Some people are surprised to discover that the North Country Housing Council. is not a part of county government. It exists as an independent, not-for-profit organization, and is recognized as such with an IRS 501(c)3 designation.

So how do we do what we do?

Some of the grants the Housing Council obtains and/or administers provide for administrative fees. In some cases we charge modest fees to governments, non-profit organizations, and individuals for the services we provide – these frequently are below our costs.

We receive some financial assistance from New York´s Rural Preservation Program, and from NeighborWorks® America, the national organization of which we are a Chartered Member.

We also rely on the donations we receive from businesses, organizations, and individuals who believe in and support the work we do. These have ranged in size from $10 to thousands of dollars, and we appreciate each one because each is a statement of support.

Please click here for a list of those who have contributed during our current fiscal year.
