The Housing Council believes that homebuyers, facing the largest single investment they will likely ever make, should have access to as much information and technical assistance as possible.
The Housing Council provides 8 hour and 12 hour classroom training to educate prospective homebuyers on key elements of the home purchase process, including: household economics and budgeting, the wise use of credit, working with real estate agents, evaluating mortgage products, home inspections, and household maintenance and upkeep.
We provide two tracks of high quality homebuyer education classes tailored to your individual needs based on how ready you are to purchase a home.

Is an intensive training program for those homebuyers who are ready to purchase their first home now. This course provides participants with a complete overview of the homeownership process. This class is offered at a variety of times.

Is a five-week course designed for applicants who want a more in-depth study of the homebuying process with strong emphasis placed on financial literacy: budgeting and repairing and establishing credit.
ALL persons applying for a Direct Homeownership Grant or First Home Club MUST ATTEND either the FasTrak or the 5 Week Comprehensive Class.
You DO NOT have to be participating in a St. Lawrence County Housing Council Program to attend these classes.
Classes cost $35. A $10 non-refundable fee should be sent with the registration form to reserve your seat (up to 2 household members per registration). $25 will be due the first day of class.
In addition, the Housing Council offers popular quarterly post-purchase training programs to reinforce the lessons learned on household finance, maintenance, and upkeep.
